Soliman began his march in Portugal in 1551, initially towards Spain.

Even in the small town of Brixen it was very resounding when the elephant entered the town just before Christmas 1551.
His temporary destination: the “Haus zum hohen Felde”, a travelers' hostel. Over the centuries, it became the Hotel Elephant, known far beyond South Tyrol.
